选角年龄偏大对不熟悉历史事件的观众的确造成了迷惑，直到片尾字幕提示Fred Hampton被手无寸铁谋杀在睡梦中时年仅21岁，才惊觉暴行的毁灭性远比已经讲述的更非人。Kaluuya和Stanfield的表演都是奥提级别的，为史料留下的领袖陨落和背叛同族故事弥补了心理层面的矛盾对抗，而意外的是Sheen和Plemons两位白人反派的表演没有落入扁平恶人的描写，良知尚存官员丝丝入扣的邪恶渐进节奏对照黑人犹大沉沦堕落后的觉醒悔悟形成了一对交锋的潜流，而情节冲突多由此展开，在失焦的弥赛亚画像身上，神性来自旁观基督受难的叙事方法，标题犹大先于耶稣，看点大半在旧罪告解之后回溯重建叛徒内心曲折，置入神谱的仰视象征意义胜过注视凡人。尽管除了民权运动悲剧记录之外，人物挖掘稍嫌不够，导演表现斗争的技法却很出色。
